Our choice of building materials today will have significant, long-term impacts on our future's global energy-related CO2 emissions. We're helping facilitate the path toward net-zero energy buildings through our WENDOW™ solar windows.
During manufacturing, a layer of our quantum dot technology is laminated between two layers of glass to redirect sunlight to the window's edges. At the edges of the window are small solar cells that capture the energy and transform it into electricity for the grid.
We partnered with the Western Art Gallery to install the largest solar concentrator windows in their gallery foyer. We are using an upgraded show of colors and neutral tints to bring attention to the art gallery. The windows include modern energy coatings to help keep the foyer warmer in the colder northern winters. The installation is a display of scale and a commitment to the inclusion of the Arts in STEM. These windows collect data that will inform future northern installations and further collaborations with local Western artists.
One of our first installations in Colorado, this suite of solar windows displays our first set of bright colors and color-neutral windows. We employed different colors and loadings of quantum dots as a marker for the Quantum Dot research at NREL and to remind the occupant that quantum dots are tunable. We’re working with NREL to track window data, map thermal performance, and collect feedback from NREL employees and visitors to the Renewable Energy center.
These solar windows are iterations of our flagship solar WENDOW. The windows power data collection systems to monitor window performance between the installed product iterations and cardinal directions. We employed near-infrared quantum dots and an energy efficiency coating for a neutral color, modestly tinted solar window that helps travelers enjoy the beautiful Los Alamos views of the Sangre de Christo Mountains.
